Why is a puppy a bad choice?
Do you dream of taking in or buying a puppy? I understand you.
Little puppies are adorable, no one can resist them. The brains of mammals are designed by evolution to respond in affection for little toddlers. It doesn’t matter if it’s a little kitten, doggie or wolverine. The disproportionate shape of the head, the big bulging eyes and the fat torso – no mammal can resist it.
We need this evolutionary affliction to take care of our children. If it were absent, children would only annoy us. Well, yes… they annoy us, and also make us feel disappointed. But, we don’t abandon them.
Among other reasons, this is why people decide to get a puppy. Well, because they saw it and couldn’t help themselves. Or rather, their mammalian brain didn’t let them not take this tiny, defenseless creature. It’s a caring instinct, you can’t win with that.
That’s why I write out loud – BEWARE! Don’t be fooled by your caregiver nature. Think a hundred times before you decide. Oh and don’t decide when you just happen to see puppies. Then it’s too late. Make a decision even before you go to the breeder. Before emotions take over.
Well, the title of this chapter is “Why a puppy is a bad choice,” let me tell you this already.
A puppy is such a creature that is completely out of control. Moreover, a creature equipped with a handful of teeth sharp as pins. The puppy will bite you! And it will hurt.
Such a toddler will destroy your home. It will bite the furniture, tear the plaster off the walls, demolish your favorite chair. I can guarantee it.
Be prepared to say goodbye to your shoes, umbrella and generally anything that happens to be on the floor. It will just eat it. Then it won’t be able to poop and you’ll have to go to the vet. There you will meet a crowd of sick dogs and stand in line for three hours.
Unless you choose a vet that no one recommends. There are never any queues there. On the other hand, I don’t know if you want to watch how such a vet treats your little one. After meeting with him, constipation will turn into the so-called “diarrhea – lasting for three days.” Your choice.
Of course, you will leave a few hundred dollars at both. Well, but it will be worth it, when the puppy recovers again it will be able to cheerfully defecate on everything.
By the way, the puppy will pee and mess everything up. Normally. I’m already telling you now, so that there will be no surprise.
Do you have any cool carpet? The decision has been made! It will be a toilet. Of course, in emergencies, it can use a couch, towel, panels, shoes, or even Lucky Handler as a toilet when you happen to be lying on his tummy. Such emergencies happen on average every half hour.
Have you ever scraped puppy poop out of a hairy carpet? No, that’s great, you’re in for an amazing new experience!
Well, maybe it won’t be so bad? Although who knows, maybe it will be even worse?
In general, think carefully. The puppy will require almost constant care at first. You will not be able to leave him alone for 8 hours. There is no chance. You will have to devote every spare moment to him. Training, socializing, playing, raising, constantly rescuing objects from being bitten. It really takes a lot of time.
Well, and you won’t get any sleep. A small dog needs to go outside at night to take care of this and that. Well, unless you prefer to start each day with cleaning. In that case, recall scraping.
What time do you get up? At seven in the morning? Well, okay, puppy at five. And on Saturday? When you get a good night’s sleep? Well, your puppy at five. And on Sunday also at five o’clock.
Of course, I’m exaggerating a bit. I’m just giving you room to think, just in case.
Perhaps you would prefer an older dog? Shelters are full of homeless dogs waiting for a home. Sometimes you can even adopt an already pre-coached one. Of course, adopting from a shelter carries risks. The dog may have experienced bad things, have behavioral problems, including aggression.
However, there are foundations and good people who provide temporary homes for homeless dogs. In this temporary home, they walk the dog, teach the basics and only put it up for adoption. This is a great solution. You will have less work to do. What’s more, sometimes you can even adopt an older breed dog.
I just want to show you that you have other options. Owning a dog doesn’t necessarily have to involve having a puppy.
